A fine violin by Vincenzo Sannino, (1879 – 1969)
A Neapolitan maker who later moved to Rome, this maker may have started as a student of Giovanni Tedesco. The most highly regarded period of his instruments dates from the 1920’s.
The back in two pieces is of quarter cut maple with a narrow curl. The wood of the ribs matches that of the back, and the scroll is of plainer maple. The top, in two pieces, is of finely grained spruce, broadening to the edge. The varnish is soft in texture, and golden brown in color.
