A fine violin by Hippolyte Chrétian Silvestre (1845-1913), made in Paris in 1899. Nephew of makers Pierre and Hippolyte Silvestre, H. C. Silvestre joined their Mirecourt workshop as a young man, taking it over in 1865. by 1884, the shop relocated to Paris.
